ABOUT US

Syd first started making tempeh from quinoa, since it was one of the main staple crops she grows here on the Mendocino coast. It was a success from the beginning! She would bring her quinoa tempeh blocks to bonfires to share with friends, and they ended up being eaten mostly as burgers for ease. Overtime, it became clear that not only was it convenient for them to be eaten in burger-form but the texture was perfect for it!

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide nourishment to the community through offering  protein-packed, plant-based, tasty tempeh—all the while supporting local farms and sustainable farming practices.

It’s no secret that our food system has some major issues. Modern agricultural practices have completely decimated the environment and harm animals and people in the process. But luckily, when agriculture is done in the right way, and when the food we produce from it is created with intention, our food system can offer healing instead of harm.

Tempeh offers an amazing opportunity to support small-scale bean and grain farmers who are stewarding the land with care, and with a result of tasty, protein-packed nutrition. With minimal processing required, tempeh not only allows the grain/bean to stay in its whole form, but it also is accessible for anyone who wants to make tempeh at home. We love this aspect to tempeh—it is adaptable to local bioregions, can be made with culturally relevant crops, and if you don’t have a local tempeh supplier near you, or if you just want to dive in yourself, you can make it on your own! You can even utilize garden-grown ingredients. That’s how we got started!

Nutrition

Tempeh is a whole food and  is incredibly nutritious not just because of the ingredients used, but also because the mycelium makes the nutrients present more digestible and absorbable.

Taste!

Food brings so much joy to our lives and we are excited to contribute to that joy by creatively using ingredients to make your taste buds happy.

Supporting Small Scale, Local Farmers

Understanding and supporting farmers, especially small-scale grain/bean producers, is vital as they contribute significantly to our communities by providing essential nutrition. We're enthusiastic about backing farmers who bravely cultivate beans, seeds, and grains to nourish our communities.

Accessible Process.png

Accessible Process

Tempeh is a traditional process from Indonesia. It is very low tech and can be made in a home kitchen pretty easily with using what you already have! We like that customers can understand the process well enough that they can make it themselves if they’d like to. With tempeh there’s nothing to hide.

Part of a Broader Movement

Tempeh is not just a food, it's a movement.

And it's growing, thanks to organizations like these:
